IMRF Chairman Visits Chinese Maritime SAR Organisations

Mr. Michael Vlasto, Chairman of the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) accompanied by Captain Song Jiahui, President of China Diving and Salvage Contractors Association and IMRF Trustee, visited local Chinese Maritime Safety Administrations (MSA) and Rescue Bases of China Rescue and Salvage (CRS) in the city of Dalian and Tianjin during his trip to China attending the 3rd Board meeting of IMRF Asia-Pacific Regional Centre 8th-11th December 2014.

When visiting the MSAs, Chairman Vlasto was given a general introduction of the organization structure, emergency plan, coordination procedure and SAR assets in the area of Bohai Bay the North China Sea. He appreciated the effort and contribution which China has made in the development of maritime SAR.

Pointing that IMRF being with the consultant role in the IMO, he hope IMRF and Chinese SAR organisations work together to promote the global SAR capability and save more lives at sea.

When visiting the rescue bases of CRS, Chairman Vlasto was interested in the former RNLI Arun and Tyne class lifeboats which was imported to China nearly 10 years ago for the service of lifesaving at sea. He appreciate the good maintenance and management which CRS has made to keep the lifeboats in such status.

Captain Song indicted that it was the cooperation between CRS and RNLI including the introduction of the lifeboats such a great progress and difference could be made in CRS for last decade. Chairman Vlasto also wrote a message on the lifeboat logo book to wish the crew make every safe rescue in the future.

During the three-day visit, the Chinese SAR organisations and staff were appreciative of Chairman's presence and commitment in promoting the great course of maritime lifesaving.
